Mentoring Moment App Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 26, 2026
Mentoring Moment is a private, offline-first journal for mentors of children and teens. This policy explains what data the app handles, where it goes, and how to control it. The short version: your mentoring data never leaves your device, we don’t collect or store any personal information about you, and the only optional network communication — anonymous diagnostics — can be turned off with a switch in Settings.
1. What We Don’t Collect
- No accounts. There is no sign-up, login, or profile of any kind.
- We don’t store your data on any server. Mentee profiles, journal entries, follow-ups, and settings are saved only in a private database on your phone or tablet (SQLite). The developer has no access to this data and cannot see it.
- No ads, no advertising trackers, no data brokers, no sale of data. We have no business need for any of these, so none exist.
2. Data Stored on Your Device
Everything you enter stays in the app’s local storage:
| Data | Where it lives | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mentee profiles (name, birthday, grade, background, goals, notes) | Local database on your device | Never transmitted anywhere by the app |
| Journal entries and follow-up action items | Local database on your device | Never transmitted anywhere by the app |
| App settings (default page, auto-backup, date format, etc.) | Local database on your device | Includes the diagnostics switch itself |
| Anonymous install ID (a random identifier) | Local database on your device | Generated randomly on first launch; used only to count unique installs in diagnostics — it is not a device ID and cannot be traced back to you or anyone else |
Backups are under your control. When you export, email, or save a backup file, the data goes exactly where you send it (for example, your own email). The developer does not receive, view, or store backups.
3. Diagnostics Telemetry (Optional)
To help find and fix bugs, the app can send small diagnostic reports to a third-party logging service (Microsoft Azure Application Insights), which acts only as a delivery pipeline for these reports.
What is sent when diagnostics are on:
- App version, build number, platform (iOS/Android), and screen size class
- Which screens you open (e.g., “View Page: Mentees”)
- High-level usage events such as adding or editing a journal entry, mentee, action item, or setting — identified only by internal record numbers, never by content
- Error reports (crash details) when something goes wrong
What is never sent:
- Journal text, titles, or follow-up items
- Mentee names, birthdays, grades, backgrounds, goals, or notes
- Your name, email address, or any other personal information
- Any content that could identify a minor
Each report carries only the random anonymous install ID described above. It is not linked to your identity, your device’s hardware identifiers, or anything else that could be used to contact you. Diagnostic data is retained by the logging provider according to its standard retention policy and is used solely to diagnose and fix app problems.
Local diagnostics. The app also records diagnostic information locally on your device (standard application logs). This local log never leaves your device.
Turning diagnostics off
Diagnostics are on by default. You can turn them off at any time:
- Open the More tab, then tap Settings.
- Flip the “Diagnostics Telemetry (help the developer)” switch to off.
When the switch is off, the app sends nothing over the network — no usage events, no error reports, nothing. Turning it back on resumes diagnostics. Local logging continues either way and stays on your device.
4. Children’s Privacy
Mentoring Moment is designed for adults (mentors, coaches, and caregivers) to use about their mentoring relationships. The app does not solicit, collect, or transmit any information from children — all content is entered by the adult user and remains on that adult’s device. Because no personal information of minors ever leaves the device, there is nothing for us to store, process, or share about them.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
- On your device: Your data persists until you delete it in the app (e.g., deleting a mentee removes their journal entries) or uninstall the app, which removes the local database.
- Backups: Any backup files you create are yours; we have no copy and no way to retrieve them. Delete them wherever you stored them if you want them gone.
- Diagnostics: When enabled, diagnostic reports are kept by the logging provider for its standard retention period (typically a few months). They contain only the anonymous items listed in Section 3.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Any material change will be noted with an updated “Last updated” date at the top of this document. The core commitment is unlikely to change: your mentoring data stays on your device.
